The Third Trimester
Only 3 months left until my due date! When I was pregnant with Paige I really wanted the pregnancy to fly by just so I could get to meet her sooner. But this time, it seems to be going a bit too fast for me! I'm glad the first trimester is over because I felt sick all the time, but the second trimester was pretty nice. I have most of my energy back. Aside from some occasional back pain and uncomfortableness, it's been going very well. Since there's a 99.9% chance that this is going to be my last pregnancy, I really don't want to rush it anymore!

Green means Go
As a distraction one day during a long car ride, we taught Paige the rules for stop lights. Now when she sees a light coming up, she'll tell us "Green means Go" or "Red means Stop" etc.
I came across this quote today and laughed thinking of how this could come from the logic of a 2-year old:
"With a stop light, green means 'go' and yellow means 'slow down'. With a banana, however, it is quite the opposite. Yellow means 'go', green means 'whoa, slow down', and red means 'where the heck did you get that banana?'"
- Mitch Hedberg

Happy Birthday to Mommy!
We had a small but fun celebration tonight for Jen's birthday. We went to Fridays for dinner, and then came home for Coldstone Creamery cake and presents. Paige helped me pick out the cake at Coldstone (strawberry passion), and she helped me decorate the kitchen with a happy birthday banner and balloons. She was pretty excited to sing happy birthday (we practiced in the car on the way home from day care), but she froze up when she saw all the candles on the cake. She did eventually sing it later, though.Paige was a bit surprised when it came to eating the cake--we forgot to tell her it was ice cream cake, and with her first bite she was shaking her head in almost a panic! At first she only wanted to eat the cake...though in the end she was getting a fair bit of the ice cream too and wasn't exactly complaining.

ABC's
Here's a video of Paige singing to her baby sister. The sound isn't great, so you might have to turn up your volume to be able to hear her well.
Our breakfast conversation
This morning, after Justin had left for work Paige and I were in the kitchen eating breakfast. Here's how the conversation went:
Me: Tomorrow's my birthday
Paige: Yea
Paige: We got you a surprise
Me: Oh yea? What kind of surprise?
Paige: A birthday present
Me: What did you get me?
Paige: I want some birthday cake
Guess I'm not going to be able to get any more details than that from her!

Happy Valentine's Day
I'll make this brief because Paige is sitting on my lap right now. Our Valentine's Day started with a trip to the pediatrician's office. Paige had thrown up 2 nights in a row. On Friday night she also had a slight fever of about 99.7 and had been holding her ear a lot. Since Justin has strep throat, we didn't want to wait any longer to get her seen. Sure enough, after a really quick glance at her throat the pediatrician confirmed our fears that Paige also has strep. So we started her on antibiotics and Motrin and she is doing much better already. She slept through the entire night last night (thank goodness). Her attitude is much improved too. We went to the old house yesterday after he appointment and cleaned it up so we can give our keys back to the landlord and he can start showing it to other potential renters. Paige just watched movies on the portable dvd player and stayed out of the way for the most part.

She made the hat at daycare. They do some kind of art project or two every day!

How to have a rough night.
[whining]
Recipe:
FWIW, Paige was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning. And somehow, I'm feeling pretty good and am in a good mood. Except for the whole strep thing, but even that seems to be subsiding thanks to the wonders of penicillin!
Recipe:
- Be diagnosed with strep throat in the afternoon. You can be on antibiotics, but not long enough for them to have a positive effect, pain-wise.
- Do not get home until 8:30pm due to Darwin Day celebrations at the university (you started work at 7am)
- Work until past midnight writing an exam for your A&P class.
- Just as you are going to bed, have your daughter throw up due to excessive candy consumption at the preschool Valentine's Day party.
- Take a good hour to finally get your daughter back in bed after said vomiting event.
- Sleep poorly due to said strep throat causing throat and ear problems.
- Get up at 6am to teach your 8am class.

The Doc says I have a big baby
I had my 25 week OB appointment today. They measured my belly with a tape measure. They didn't do this step at my last appointment 4 weeks ago, but the one before that I was measuring right where I was supposed to. This time the doctor measured me, went to my chart, came back, and measured me again. Sure enough, I'm measuring like I should be around 28 weeks instead of 25 weeks. I've only gained about 10 pounds which is normal if not low, so it's all baby. He's going to do an ultrasound at my next appointment in 4 weeks. I remember with Paige I had extra amniotic fluid in there so I was bigger than usual with her too. Paige was also born 2 weeks early, so I'm thinking this one may be an early bird as well.

Settling in
We moved into the new house this past weekend! Everything went pretty well. We even had a lot of stuff unpacked including the entire kitchen before the week started.
Paige is adjusting very well. She's been sleeping in her new room for 3 nights now, and has actually been doing better than what she had been at the old house. Knock on wood.
Paige started at her new daycare yesterday. She was a little clingy when I dropped her off, but she wasn't really crying. I finally told her I had to go and handed her off to one of the teachers. She let the teacher pick her up without any fussing. I called to check in around 1pm and they said she ate a good lunch and was taking a nap. Justin and I both went together to pick her up last night. She was just kind of walking around the room, but was very happy to see us. She said she had a good time and they sent home 2 art projects just from her first day! I was a little nervous because she's the youngest kid in her class. It's a preschool class for ages 3-4, but Paige won't be 3 until May. They figured this would be easier than trying to transition her in a few months. There's a total of 16 kids in the class (if they are all there at the same time) and two teachers. The nice thing is we will only be paying for the days that she is in school. If we have off or take a vacation, we pay a daily rate and not weekly. As long as she is there for a minimum of 3 days a week. That will come in handy over the summer when Justin is off and I'm on maternity leave.

The Move
This Saturday is officially moving day. Grandma and Papa came out this past weekend and helped us clean out the new house and pack up most of our stuff here. Paige really is surprising me with how well she's adjusting to the changes. She is very aware of the new house vs. the old house. This past Friday night she had a really hard time sleeping. She was up every 15 minutes or so between 11:30pm and 2am. She was afraid of something, but wasn't really clear on what was wrong. I think it could've been that she knew we were going to the new house the next day and was just afraid that maybe we'd go without her? She spent the day with us on Saturday at the new house while we cleaned. And she also did very well on Sunday while we packed up this house. If she can't find something of hers, she'll make the comment that Grandma and Papa packed it up. I took her sleeping bag and pillow with us on Saturday so she could nap at the new house (even though she didn't), but she also wanted to make sure we took Ella's cat bed with us. She didn't want Ella to be left behind. I thought she'd have more sleep issues this week since her room is looking very bare and everything else is out of place, but she's been handling it great! Hopefully she'll do ok sleeping in the new house next week.
I'm 24 weeks pregnant today. We'll have to get some pictures of my big ole belly up here soon. The baby is kicking a ton. I've been feeling pretty well, aside from some minor back pain. At my last appointment I brought up a concern with my doctor that I hadn't really been gaining any weight yet. I seem to remember with Paige that the weight gain also didn't start until near the end of the pregnancy, so she wasn't too concerned. I haven't had much of an appetite since becoming pregnant, so my portions have gotten smaller. And from working at home, I usually have healthier snack options available than if I were in an office environment with vending machines and ice cream shops close by! I think I hit a turning point this past week. I've really been getting my appetite back. I also put on a few pounds just from this past weekend alone! I don't think weight gain will be much of an issue from here on out.
